These blocks will be designed to mount in a standard shop bench vice, allowing the user to work on up to four 12 gauge hulls at a time using equipment they already have vs purchasing a standalone hull vice. The hull vice blocks will make it simpler for reloaders performing hull trimming or roll crimping functions that require the hull remain relatively still and level.
Construction
The tool will be comprised of a pair of pinned blocks, machined to the exact outer diameter of a 12 gauge hull’s brass foot. The blocks will be made from either aluminum or plastic depending on production costs and material grip properties.
Installation
Installation will consist of dropping the vice blocks into a conventional shop bench vice and tightening until sealed.
Operation
The operator will begin by sliding the vice blocks over top of an existing shop bench vice.
With the blocks open, the user will place up to four shotshell hulls in the appropriate spaces and tighten the shop bench vice until the blocks seal.
Materials
This tool will be designed to work with plastic or paper shotshell hulls.
Summary
The hull vice blocks will provide the user with a stable, level and firm fixture from which to perform various reloading operations without damaging hulls.
